At Northern, we run more than 2,500 trains every day, serving stations across the North of England. Behind every journey is a huge support network - and that includes our friendly, customer-focused IT team.

As a Technical Support Analyst, you'd be one of the first people our colleagues turn to when something's not working. That could mean fixing a technical issue over the phone, responding to queries by email, or heading out across the network to lend a hand in person. It's a hands-on role with lots of variety and the chance to make a real difference to how people work across Northern. If you love solving problems, enjoy getting into the detail, and like the idea of being the go-to tech person for your team, this could be a great fit.

What you'll be doing

Handling technical queries from colleagues across the business by phone, email and face-to-face Investigating and resolving hardware and software issues Providing helpful, jargon-free advice that empowers users to fix things themselves Managing your time effectively so you can balance quick fixes with longer-term support Travelling across our network when needed to resolve issues on site

About you

Windows, Microsoft Office and a head for troubleshooting - that's three things you'll bring. You'll be used to supporting users in a busy IT environment, and confident resolving issues across a wide range of systems and software.

You'll also need:

A logical, methodical approach to problem-solving Great people skills - able to explain things clearly and build quick rapport Flexibility to travel across the network and work from either Manchester or York A proactive attitude and the confidence to dig for answers using your own initiative

Any formal IT or ITIL qualifications are a bonus, but not essential.

Why Northern?

We're more than just a train operator. We're the heartbeat of the North - connecting communities, creating opportunities, and driving sustainable growth. With 2,500 trains running daily, we're on a mission to improve rail travel and enhance the customer experience while protecting the environment.

Back in 1825, the first passenger train set off in the North of England, after which rail quickly spread across the globe - and this year, we're celebrating 200 years of the modern railway. As we look back on the historic events that led us here, we also look towards the future as we move into the era of Great British Rail. Join us at this pivotal moment in rail history and play your part in our journey.

A place for everyone

The best journeys happen when everyone feels welcome on board.

At Northern, we don't just move people from A to B - we're building a team where everyone feels they belong. Our talent team can make reasonable adjustments to the process if that's something you need. We're also a Level 2 Disability Confident employer, so if you meet the minimum criteria for the role, we'll always offer an interview.

We automate parts of our screening process to remove any unconscious bias and to make sure every application is treated fairly. All successful offers will be subject to a DBS check and a medical assessment.

No matter your background, experience, or whether you call it a bap, barm, or cob... there's a place for you here in the railway.
