Brook Crompton is a leading provider of high-efficiency electric motors, delivering quality and innovation for over a century. With our strong global presence, we are committed to excellence and continuous development. We are now offering an exciting opportunity to join our Technical Department at our Huddersfield site.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, and support of electric motors and drive systems, with a focus on reliability, safety, and performance in demanding environments. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers to deliver high-quality solutions and support product development initiatives.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Applying core principles of mechanical and electrical engineering to support the design and analysis of electric motors, including both induction and permanent magnet types.
Developing and applying an in-depth understanding of motor theory, drive techniques, and Eco-Design regulations relevant to modern industrial applications.
Supporting the selection and integration of motors for use in Hazardous Area environments (e.g., ATEX or IECEx), including performing relevant design validations and risk assessments.
Conducting engineering calculations and performance analyses using tools such as Excel, MATLAB, or similar, to evaluate thermal, mechanical, and electrical performance.
Creating detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings using industry-standard software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), ensuring alignment with international standards and internal quality processes.
Collaborating with Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to support product customisation, modification orders, and technical enquiries.
Generating and maintaining accurate documentation, including datasheets, outline drawings, test certificates, and compliance documents.
Working with suppliers to produce technical specifications, review design proposals, and support failure investigations and continuous improvement efforts.
Providing engineering support to customers during project definition, installation, commissioning, and post-sales support phases.
Assisting in the management of product lifecycle, including BOM creation, change control, and product improvement initiatives.
What We're Looking For
A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Solid understanding of core mechanical principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and thermodynamics.
Ideally some experience with AC Motors.
Proficiency in CAD design (3D and 2D), with an ability to produce clear and accurate engineering drawings.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
High attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, and comfortable working with data and calculations.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and eager to take initiative and grow within a dynamic engineering environment.
