Job Purpose
:
The postholder will provide in depth knowledge and understanding of technical aspects of knit construction and production in order to support a range of activities across teaching and research.
The role mainly supports the following programmes: BA Hons Textile Art, Design and Fashion; MSc Fashion and Textile Retail Management; Foundation (year 0); and other courses and activities as required within the Belfast School of Art.
Within the discipline of Knit, the postholder will provide skilled technical assistance, instruction, guidance, demonstrating equipment and processes as appropriate. The postholder will ensure the effective provision and availability of specialist equipment and work areas in order to facilitate academic delivery, student learning, research and knowledge exchange activities. Technical Support staff are involved with students in formative assessment and feedback as required.
The postholder may carry out tests and experiments, installing and configuring new equipment, diagnosing and resolving technical issues/problems within their subject area. The postholder will engage in technical support for school wide activity such as recruitment, induction, examinations, exhibitions, events, health and safety.
The detailed duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character or level of responsibility entailed. The postholder will update their knowledge of industry standard processes, materials and technologies in line with new research and equipment as it becomes available.
The postholder will be a member of the School Board and will attend and participate in relevant course, subject, School and Faculty meetings.
