Orthotic Technician (Training Pathway: Traditional Fabrication + CAD/CAM)
London Orthotic Consultancy (LOC)
is looking for a practical, technically skilled person who enjoys making things with their hands and wants to develop modern digital skills. You'll split your time between the workshop and the computer: learning traditional orthotic fabrication while also building capability in 3D modelling and digital workflows.
What you'll do
Interpret clinician prescriptions, drawings and scans to produce high-quality custom orthoses.
Carry out traditional workshop tasks: Plastic moulding , soft-lining, shaping, trimming and finishing.
Learn composite manufacture: pre-preg carbon-fibre lay-up, vacuum bagging and curing (full training provided).
Build and adapt 3D models in
Fusion
; prepare files for 3D print/CNC as needed.
Keep accurate records, follow SOPs, and maintain a tidy, safe workspace.
Collaborate closely with orthotists and technicians to solve practical problems.
About you
Strong practical aptitude and confidence with hand/power tools; great attention to detail.
Either: a technical/engineering/design background
or
solid hands-on making experience (e.g., composites, footwear/shoe adaptations, model-making, fabrication).
Comfortable with computers; some exposure to 3D CAD is ideal--or a clear willingness to learn quickly.
Logical, methodical, and quality-driven; able to follow instructions and work to precise specifications.
Bonus points for any of: carbon-fibre, EVA/thermoplastics, 3D printing/CNC, or prior orthotic/footwear work.
