Role Overview:

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Technologist Lead will lead a team of Technologists and Technicians whose objective is to develop new materials and products, maintain current formulations, to assist in problem solving for manufacturing processes and to support production with product verification and testing activities. This role will also provide technical support to other sites within the HellermannTyton Group.

Key Responsibilities:




Supervise the day-to-day operation of the technical team

To provide technical support as required by production, sales, marketing and sister companies, travelling to sites as required

Ensure all documentation for materials is kept current and accurate

Formulate materials to maximise properties and comply with health & safety legislation

Project manage the development and introduction of new materials into production

Support New Product and Process Development

Testing materials and product to customer specifications and preparing reports to feedback results and conclusions

Materials selection including contact with raw materials suppliers to evaluate available options, travelling as required to support development projects

Ensure employees within area of responsibility are adequately trained and developed, ensure training documentation and records are completed

Support consistent and fair implementation of personnel policies and procedures and report back, manage disciplinary issues in accordance with company policy

To play an active role in product and process improvement and the implementation of change

Essential:




Degree level qualification in a materials science or plastics discipline or equivalent

Experience within plastics industry essential, preferably within a manufacturing environment

Knowledge of Rubber and Plastic technologies

Competent in Microsoft Office programmes (Word, Outlook & Project)

Able to read Engineering drawings

Relevant skills and experience in Business Improvement Techniques

Knowledge of materials and material development

Knowledge of international test methods & specifications

Manages the performance of others, agreeing clear performance objectives, providing feedback, coaching and deals with poor performance fairly using relevant organisational processes

Takes responsibility for health, safety & environmental requirements and standards, under qualified guidance develops systems and processes to ensure compliance and minimised risks.

Able to allocate time and co-ordinate resources effectively for timely completion of tasks and
projects. Anticipating obstacles and developing contingency plans
Sets and demonstrates high level of reliability and dependability both in working hours and timeliness of meetings

Takes responsibility for business quality requirements and standards, develops processes and systems to ensure highest level of compliance



Desirable:



Experience of applying company disciplinary/ grievance procedures

Full driving licence

Experience of production management systems.


Member of a professional body.
