Temp Head Cook - Key Responsibilities

Lead daily kitchen operations, preparing fresh, healthy, and balanced meals for children in accordance with dietary requirements and allergy guidelines. Work closely with nursery staff to plan weekly menus that are child-friendly and promote healthy eating. Maintain the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and kitchen organisation at all times. Monitor and manage food stock, place orders effectively, and ensure minimal waste. Record all required food safety documentation and comply with food hygiene regulations. Support and motivate any assisting kitchen personnel, fostering a positive and safe work atmosphere.

Location:

Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk

Rate:

15.68 per hour (holiday pay included)

Schedule:

Monday to Friday, daytime hours; no late evenings or weekends

Essential Experience & Skills for Nursery Head Cook Jobs

Prior experience as a Cook, Chef, or Kitchen Manager--ideally within nurseries, schools, care homes, or similar settings.

Level 2 Food Hygiene

certification (minimum). Thorough knowledge of allergen management and special dietary requirements for young children. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Positive, flexible, and professional attitude, demonstrating a genuine passion for healthy cooking and child care. Enhanced DBS check is highly desirable (may be required prior to starting).
