We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Early Years Assistant to join our childcare team. We are based on the grounds of Romsey Abbey C of E Primary School, offering Outdoor Learning and Forest School sessions as part of our provision.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the team and the children to help create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children, supporting their developmental needs through engaging activities and personalised care.
Duties
Support planning and deliver age-appropriate educational activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
Supervise children during play, mealtimes, and rest periods, ensuring their safety at all times.
Foster a warm and welcoming environment that encourages curiosity and independence among children.
Maintain accurate records of children's progress and daily activities in accordance with regulatory standards.
Collaborate with colleagues to meet individual children's needs.
Communicate effectively with parents or guardians regarding children's daily routines.
Lead by example in maintaining high standards of behaviour, organisation, and professionalism within the setting.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times.
Requirements
No Early Years Qualifications are necessary (training will be provided), but previous experience of caring for young children, whether your own children, family/friends or working in a setting is required.
Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
Knowledge of childcare regulations, safeguarding policies, and early childhood development principles.
Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young children.
2 professional references, including your last employer, and last employer if applicable in an Early Years or Educational setting.
An Enhanced DBS, which can be applied for on the success of the position.
Hours required are Term Time Only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9.30am -12.30pm for the Spring and Summer Term of 2026.
This is a temporary position, with the potential of future positions or bank staff roles.
