Job Description

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Temporary Works Co-ordinator (TWC) to oversee all temporary works activities on a major civil engineering construction project. This includes planning, coordination, and implementation of temporary works for structures such as cofferdams, formwork, falsework, earthwork support, traffic management schemes, scaffolding, and other site-enabling works.


You will ensure full compliance with BS 5975, CDM 2015, and client-specific standards, acting as the central point of control for all temporary works operations on site.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the appointed TWC for the project in accordance with BS 5975. Maintain and regularly update the Temporary Works Register. Review and coordinate temporary works designs (e.g. trench support, access scaffolding, crane bases, propping systems). Ensure temporary works are designed by competent personnel and independently checked where required. Ensure site teams implement temporary works in accordance with approved designs and safe systems of work. Issue permits (e.g. Permit to Load, Permit to Strike) following inspections and sign-off. Interface with Temporary Works Designers (TWDs), consultants, subcontractors, and the construction team. Chair temporary works coordination meetings and ensure all stakeholders are informed and aligned. Provide briefings, toolbox talks, and guidance on temporary works procedures and risk control measures. Monitor compliance and lead incident investigations related to temporary works.

Qualifications & Experience

HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. CITB-accredited Temporary Works Co-ordinator (TWCTC) course certification (mandatory). Minimum 3-5 years' experience in temporary works management in civil engineering. Demonstrable knowledge of: + Deep excavations and trench support + Cofferdams and earthworks
+ Temporary bridges and haul roads
+ Formwork, falsework, and propping
+ Reinforcement Stability
CSCS Card - Manager or Professionally Qualified Person (PQP). SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) is highly desirable. Familiar with CDM 2015, temporary works procedures, and design risk management.

Skills and Attributes

Excellent planning, coordination, and communication skills. Proven ability to lead on safety and compliance. Confident working with design teams, subcontractors, and clients. Strong understanding of structural principles and construction methods. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple work fronts. Capable of challenging site conditions and temporary works arrangements on site Knowledgeable of complex reinforcement and formwork designs

Project Environment

Site-based role on an active construction site Working outdoors in varying weather conditions. PPE and safety briefings required at all times. * Travel between satellite sites may be required.
