As the Regional Scotland
Designated Individual
, you will be
responsible for the following:
Ensure the business units complies with BS5975:2024 Part 1
and the company's Temporary Works Procedure
Approve and record appointments of Temporary Works
Coordinators (TWCs), Alternate TWCs, and supervisors (TWSs)
Validate competence of designers, checkers and subcontractors
Lead audits and reviews to monitor compliance and identify
improvements
Act as the escalation point of technical or procedural issues
related to Temporary Works
Promote awareness and provide guidance on Temporary Works
procedures
Support competency development for TWCs and TWSs
Ensuring lessons learned from audits and incidents are
embedded into future practice
Ensuring a relentless focus on Zero Harm
Who we're looking for
The Designated Individual must demonstrate exceptional leadership and integrity, acting as the senior authority for Temporary Works governance.
Strong communication skills are essential to influence and guide project teams, ensuring compliance without compromising delivery. A collaborative approach is critical, as the DI will work across multiple disciplines and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
Attention to detail, resilience under pressure, and a commitment to continuous improvement are key attributes for success.
Candidates should have extensive experience in civil engineering or construction management, ideally within a variety of infrastructure projects.
A proven track record in Temporary Works design, coordination, or assurance is essential, alongside a deep understanding of BS5975 Part 1 and industry best practice.
Experience in leading teams, managing technical risk, and implementing governance frameworks is highly desirable.
Familiarity with subcontractor management and competency assessment processes
will be advantageous.
Professional membership of an engineering institution (e.g., ICE or IStructE) and relevant Temporary Works training or accreditation will strengthen suitability for the role.
