We are looking for a proactive and technically capable Temporary Works Designer to join our team, working within a leading reinforced concrete subcontractor on major construction projects. This role involves the design of temporary works solutions to support complex concrete structures, with a focus on practical, safe, and cost-efficient delivery.
The ideal candidate will have experience in first-principles design and preferably a background in system formwork such as Peri Trio or RMD Alshor, although this is not essential. You will be joining a fast-paced and dynamic environment, contributing directly to the successful execution of RC frame and civil engineering packages.
Key Responsibilities:
Design temporary works schemes to support reinforced concrete construction, including formwork, falsework, backpropping, crane bases, edge protection, and access.
Carry out structural analysis using first principles and/or structural design software where applicable.
Produce and check engineering drawings, calculations, and technical documentation in accordance with BS 5975 and other relevant codes.
Liaise closely with site teams, project engineers, and formwork suppliers to develop practical and buildable solutions.
Review supplier designs (e.g., system formwork layouts) for technical compliance and site-specific requirements.
Support Temporary Works Coordinators in planning and managing the design and implementation of temporary works on site.
Conduct site visits to assess conditions, monitor installations, and provide engineering support as needed.
Requirements:
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
Minimum of +4 years' experience in temporary works design, ideally within reinforced concrete construction.
Familiarity with design standards including BS 5975 and Eurocodes.
Competence in first-principles structural design (steel, concrete, timber).
Experience with structural design software (e.g., Tedds, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar).
Knowledge of system formwork (e.g., Peri Trio, RMD Alshor) preferred but not essential.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise in a deadline-driven environment.
Desirable:
Experience working for or with a reinforced concrete subcontractor.
Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor training (CITB) is an advantage.
Chartered or working toward chartered status with ICE or IStructE.
What We Offer:
Opportunity to work on high-profile RC and civil projects.
Supportive team environment with career development prospects.
Competitive salary and benefits package.
