Engineering Operations (EO) are responsible for the Preparation and Test of Prototype Rotating Machines, including Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), Powertrain in the Loop (PiL) and future proofing technologies such as Electronic Drive Units (EDU) in support of the overall powertrain cycle plan. Prototype Rotating Machine Test facilitates this activity by establishing the support and control of customer test requests, ensuring that machines are tested to the correct procedure and process. We drive the delivery of high-quality data, whilst observing test standards, which engineering decisions are made on.

The Rotating Machine Test Installation Engineer is a key, pivotal role to ensure repeatability of installations across the commodities and to drive excellence through engineering guidance with creation of installation guides, supporting documentation and daily verbal support. You\'ll lead and take part the installations of RMT UUT\'s onto the Jaguar Land Rover test facilities, including the New Propulsion Development Centre (NPDC). Work in a close, diverse team of Test Engineers collaborating with Advance Engineers, Facility Engineers, Customer Teams and Technicians to deliver a host of calibration and development testing.

You\'ll also be responsible for developing and reporting the successes of the operations team in installation metrics, investigating continuous improvement, issues capture, and the development and communicating of containment actions (CCAR) to achieve Right First Time (RFT) operation, a core value of the team.

The role will cover Whitley Rotating Machine Test facilities at Whitley.

The individual will be upskilled to become efficient in the following areas

  • Channel listing alignment to Test cell project
  • Loading of projects Migrated test cell and xOne systems
  • Ancillary equipment understanding fault analysis
  • Automation set up and control PUMA and Schenk xOne
  • EDU testing facility understanding
  • Facility utilisation process and reporting.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Support and Guide B grade technicians in day-to-day operations/ priorities
  • Support Installation Engineering delivering to procedure
  • Optimising operations to enable control and delivery of quality installations
  • Ensuring the department handover quality to the customer using customer first principles
  • Deliver engines through processes from build delivery to first run on the test bed.
  • Ensure processes and procedures are maintained and are up to date with current operations
  • Promote/ Support Health & Safety, TPM and Training.
  • Support in the development of processes, WI\'s and SPL\'s to support Prototype Engine Test objectives
  • Develop and provide weekly team feedback and presentations regarding departmental objectives and issues
  • Technical discussion facility selection, equipment
  • Liaise with support areas pallet and Hot test
  • Support priorities from Lead Delivery Engineer
  • Communicate installation concerns via JLR processes with Installation Engineer
  • Central point of contact (POC) for in cell delivery Staff and Hourly
  • Co-ordinate hourly support for all requirements to achieve RFT efficient delivery
  • Operate using JLR quality LEAN approach CCARS, 8D, 5Y\'s Problem solving techniques. Continuous improvement approach.
WHAT YOU\'LL NEED

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential
  • ICE and or EDU test bed operational knowledge
  • Proven experience in leadership and workload management
  • Proven ability to plan effectively and achieve quality results
  • Natural problem solver with proven experience and structured approach to problem solving in a technical environment
  • Detailed knowledge of company Health and Safety requirements, including Risk Assessment, COSHH and SDS
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office competency to produce plans, presentations, graphs, SPL documents and process review / generation
  • Experience in a testing environment, with a knowledge of measurement technology and facility requirements
  • Commitment, flexibility, self-motivation, robust clear communication.
  • Background in quality standards and audit processes
  • A full UK driving license with less than 6 penalty points, no disqualification, 2 years accident-free record
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Desirable
  • Ideally educated to Degree but not essential in a Business, Science, Engineering or Mathematical discipline
  • Knowledge of prototype engine test and or engine build processes and operations
  • Skills in fault resolution and root-cause identification are crucial, as is a methodical, logical approach to work
  • Previous experience of leading a team, the implementation of lean tools and processes
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification
  • A comprehensive knowledge of Powertrain products.
