Job Description

Futures-Essex is a therapeutic and relational Alternative Provision supporting children and young people who have experienced barriers to education.

We specialise in working with young people experiencing EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance), anxiety, and neurodiversity. Through therapeutic, interest-led education and home education sessions, we build trust, confidence, and emotional literacy in a calm, relational, and flexible environment.

The Role


We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Alternative Provision Tutor to deliver personalised 1:1 and small-group tuition. You will play a vital role in helping pupils to re-engage with learning, using trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to build trust, promote wellbeing, and foster confidence.

This role requires strong communication skills, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities



Plan and deliver engaging lessons and sessions tailored to individual pupil needs. Align lesson plans with curriculum standards and therapeutic learning objectives. Use trauma-informed and relational strategies to promote engagement. Foster a positive, supportive environment that builds confidence and participation. Track and assess pupil progress, adjusting strategies to enhance learning outcomes. Provide regular feedback to pupils and communicate progress with parents/guardians. Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and external professionals. Safeguard pupils in line with

KCSIE 2025

and Futures-Essex policies. Promote equality, inclusion, and positive behaviour. Participate in CPD, reflective practice, and supervision.

Person Specification



Essential:

Experience working with children and young people, including those with additional needs. Strong communication and organisational skills. Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse needs. Understanding of trauma-informed and relational practice. A passion for education and a commitment to helping pupils achieve their potential.
Desirable:

Relevant teaching/tutoring qualification. Experience in Alternative Provision or specialist settings. Training in therapeutic or wellbeing interventions (e.g. ELSA, Thrive, Trauma-Informed Schools)
