NHS England has set every system the following Mental Health Long Term Plan Aspiration:



"Every patient admitted to a mental health hospital is screened for their smoking status and offered brief smoking cessation support by 31st March 2024."



Now, we're looking for a Clinical Lead to develop, implement and deliver a new Mental Health (MH) Tobacco Dependence Treatment Pathway. In this exciting and strategic role, you'll play a key role in supporting the Trust's ambition to be a lead for reducing health inequalities.



Initially, this will support adults with severe mental illnesses who have tobacco dependency based within MH inpatient wards and from April 2024 the Community Mental Health Teams too.



You will lead a new team, with Tobacco Dependency Advisors, alongside people with lived experience, Stop Smoking Champions and support from Public Health smoking cessation support offers. Quality Improvement approaches will support implementation and ensure robust metrics are in place to measure impact.

Person Specification



Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust's Values



UK Master's degree level or equivalent



Leadership training.



Current Registration with Health and Care Professions Council without restriction.



Requires level 2/3 (Practitioner) smoking cessation competencies plus mental health module (and or work towards in the first 3-6months)


Proven experience of development, implementation/ delivery, and data recording of clinical pathways, following NHSE guidelines.



Strategically linking with the Smokefree strategy, the QI QUITT Collaboration and other related projects and initiatives across Coventry and Warwickshire.



Adaptable teaching skills in relation to patients, carers and colleagues



Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.



Ability to demonstrate team building, leadership and organisational skills.



Demonstrates a thorough understanding of clinical and management supervision skills.



Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance.



Ability to locate up to date research, evidence and governance relevant to clinical area and integrate into practice.



Knowledge and ability to use Quality Improvement methodology and approach



Ability to lead and inspire others.



Experience of adopting quality improvement approaches to support implementation and ensure robust metrics are in place to measure impact.



Experience of leading on data recording and reporting and analysis of progress against performance targets i.e. trajectories, highlight reports, qualitive case studies



Experience of reporting to governance routes for internal and system assurance and escalation of progress and risks.



Evidence of effective caseload management.



Experience of supervising registered and/or non-registered staff (including students)



Experience of involvement in service evaluation and audit.
