Role Synopsis
The trading teams within ST&S RPTE are one of three regional Performance Units in ST&S. They are responsible for marketing BP's exploration production across the region, sourcing crude for BP refineries, trading on behalf of associates, and supporting refinery assets to maximise commercial performance.
Operations play a critical role in Supply & Trading. Within RPTE, this includes physical operations, paper operations, and refinery coordination across a broad geographical area, engaging with diverse cultures and disciplines. The Operations organisation consists of several sub?teams: Trading Operations, Voyage Operations, Cargo Assurance, Documentation Administration, Inventory Analysts, and Shipping Coordination.
Operations ensure the end?to?end process runs smoothly by providing technical expertise and ensuring accurate, timely data flow. The team manages deal logistics to BP's best commercial advantage while meeting all contractual and Group assurance obligations.
As part of the Operations Extended Leadership Team, the Trading Operations Technical Leader ensures smooth, compliant, and high?quality operations within their trading operations bench, while managing key relationships across front office, functions, and regional teams.
Key Accountabilities
People & Capability
Build technical and operational capability within the bench, including training new joiners and promoting continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
Support cross?bench training and capability building as part of the Technical Lead community.
Work with the Operations Team Leader to embed "our beliefs" within the team.
Operational Excellence
Support day?to?day operational delivery and assist with complex operational scenarios to enable bench strategy.
Provide out?of?hours operational cover as required.
Lead weekly technical meetings and communicate key messages to the bench.
Ensure incidents are reported and risks managed using root?cause analysis.
Drive adherence to ST&S and RPTE Risk Management requirements, ensuring key risk barriers are maintained and verified.
Ensure strong cyber?security behaviours to protect BP systems and data.
Continuous Improvement & Strategy
Support and, where required, lead continuous improvement initiatives and digital projects across operations.
Provide technical input to support trading strategy and maximise value.
Contribute operational insight to new business activity (including NAI's) through regular engagement with front office and functional teams.
Governance & Compliance
Encourage a strong speak?up culture for COLT events, ensuring timely escalation and proper documentation using the Five Whys methodology.
Collaborate with support functions such as Tax and Commodity Risk as required.
Lead reporting of key operational metrics and KPIs through the Ops Performance Management KPI app, ensuring alignment with the Operations Framework and strategic goals.
Contribute to improving Operations Pulse Survey results as part of the leadership team.
Essential Experience & Job Requirements
Strong expertise in oil trading operations (cargo and/or barges).
Proven operational track record with demonstrated delivery of commercial value.
Strong understanding of risk, compliance, HSSE, and shipping requirements.
Effective leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and influence.
Strong teammate with excellent relationship?building skills across front office and external counterparties.
Strong negotiation skills and ability to implement strategy.
Ability to achieve operational and business goals through systematic planning and resource management.
High attention to detail and strong operational rigor.
Ability to develop innovative solutions and collaborate with M&D and/or I&E to support digital initiatives.
