Are you hardworking, enthusiastic about consumer protection and keen to support businesses? We are looking for two Trading Standards Officers to join our vibrant and forward thinking Service. One qualified Food Officer and one experienced investigator. No two days are the same and you have the opportunity to make a real difference.

About the Role

Trading Standards Food officer - This role is part of our Compliance Team working with experienced and dedicated food officers to inspect, advise and where necessary investigate and or take enforcement action in accordance with our Enforcement Policy to maintain the safety of the food chain. You will manage your own workload and undertake your own criminal investigations. You will undertake project work as required and keep abreast of legislative changes and maintain the required CPD hours.

Trading Standards Investigator - This role is part of our Projects team and will involve providing advice to seek compliance and where necessary investigate and/or take appropriate enforcement action in accordance with our Enforcement Policy. You will manage your own workload and undertake your own criminal investigations. You will undertake project work associated the team covering a broad area of Trading Standards work but including Tobacco control and vapes. A good knowledge of Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 will be necessary for this work.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Have obtained the relevant CTSI Food Standards qualification (DTS, DCA, DCATS or current equivalent) for the food officer post or have recent investigation experience for the investigator role and/or relevant Trading Standards qualification (DTS, DCA, DCATS or current equivalent)
  • Have experience in managing own workload, planning and preparing for inspections and meeting deadlines and recording work in a detailed, accurate and timely manner, preparing reports and undertaking project work.
  • Have experience in interpreting and applying appropriate legislation; enabling you to lead on, and undertake criminal investigations and enforcement action.
  • Be able to provide advice to businesses, including complex advice whether face to face or by letter or email.
  • Be willing and able to provide advice, guidance and supervision to less experienced staff.
  • Be willing and able to deputise for senior TSO\'s when necessary, including attending meetings and liaising with external partners.
  • keep up to date with new legislation and statutory requirements. in order to maintain a thorough knowledge of Trading Standards legislation for your area of work.
