Join Lincolnshire Trading Standards as a Senior Trading Standards Officer
About the Role
Lincolnshire Trading Standards is looking for a committed and motivated Senior Trading Standards Officer to join our frontline team. This is an important role that helps us deliver our legal duties and protect both consumers and businesses.
We are ideally seeking a qualified Trading Standards Officer, however, we are also open to considering an apprentice candidate who shows the right attitude, commitment, and passion for supporting businesses, consumer protection, and animal health.
This role is a general Trading Standards Officer role but will focus on feed and animal health and welfare enforcement, which is vital for protecting public health, animal welfare, and the integrity of the food chain. You will work with farmers, businesses, and partner agencies to make sure the law is followed, give advice, and take enforcement action when needed.
What You'll Do

• Carry out inspections and investigations related to feed and animal health laws (these include abattoirs and rendering plants and dealing with animal welfare complaints).
• Collect evidence and prepare cases for enforcement, including court action.
• Interview suspects under caution and gather evidence for criminal investigations.
• Give clear advice and guidance to businesses and stakeholders.
• Work with partner organisations such as DEFRA and APHA.
• Lead or support projects to improve compliance and protect consumers, businesses and animal welfare.
• Represent Lincolnshire County Council at regional and national meetings.

What We're Looking For
For qualified applicants:

• Diploma in Trading Standards (or equivalent)
• Experience in Trading Standards enforcement, ideally in feed, food and animal health

For apprentice applicants:

• Good communication skills and ability to explain things clearly
• Attention to detail and ability to stay calm under pressure
• Willingness to complete a five-year training programme with both study and practical work

For all applicants:

• Strong problem-solving and investigative skills
• Ability to work flexibly and manage your own workload
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
• Ability to analyse information and make sound decisions
