Job Description

Trading Standards South West (TSSW) is a community interest company representing the 11 Local Authority Trading Standards services in the South West of England. All stakeholders share a common purpose to promote a fair and safe trading environment to protect the interests of consumers and reputable businesses throughout the South West of England.

We are looking for an individual with good administrative skills to support the regional office. The role's primary aims are:

To liaise with the 9 Government funded tobacco and vape apprentices, ensuring regular communication with apprentices and provide assistance where needed. This may include provision of supplementary training in the region, arranging support from within the region in order to meet the requirements of the CSA level 6 apprenticeship (such as is needed for assessments).

To be the regional Single Point of Contact for CSA, who are the training provider for the apprenticeship.

To complete quarterly returns for i) illegal vapes seizures, storage and underage sales operations in the region and ii) co-ordinate finance claims and reporting related to the apprentices progress.

To complete quarterly returns for illegal tobacco workstreams.

Liaison with the employing authorities of the 9 apprentices to assist in project oversight and governance.

Working under the direction of the regional tobacco lead to help deliver non-enforcement activities under the tobacco and vapes workstreams, such as drafting press releases and social media (alongside TSSW administrator) and assist in the planning and delivery of tobacco and vapes roadshows in the region.

Dealing with press and media enquiries, which may involve direction to the appropriate local authority / contact person.

In addition, the co-ordinator will be required to attend some regional meetings and take meeting notes.

The successful candidate will need excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn.

The successful candidate should hold A levels, HND or the equivalent. In addition, he/she/ they must demonstrate a high level of administrative skills and the ability to produce detailed reports and documents. The successful candidate must be able to evidence their ability to work on their own initiative and provide support to multiple workstreams. Excellent time management skills are a necessity.

The regional office is based at the Victoria Commercial centre, Victoria, Cornwall. However, there will be flexibility for home working, so candidates from the wider South West region are welcome to apply. The Post holder will be required to travel within the South West region, therefore, a current and full driving licence is required.

Experience of local government or an education setting is desirable, but not essential for the right candidate. Experience of co-ordination and working with a group of trainees or apprentices is also desirable.
