Job Title

Traffic Management Depot Manager

Job Purpose

The Traffic Management Depot Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the depot, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of traffic management services. This role oversees staff, vehicles, equipment, planning, and compliance while maintaining high standards of safety, service quality, and cost control.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Depot Management

Manage daily depot operations, ensuring jobs are resourced, planned, and delivered efficiently Coordinate traffic management crews, supervisors, and subcontractors Oversee scheduling, logistics, and deployment of vehicles, plant, and traffic management equipment Ensure depot facilities are maintained to a safe and professional standard

Health, Safety & Compliance

Ensure full compliance with traffic management legislation, codes of practice, and company policies Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example Conduct toolbox talks, audits, inspections, and incident investigations Ensure risk assessments, method statements, and permits are completed and adhered to

People Management

Lead, motivate, and develop depot staff, including recruitment, training, and performance management Manage staff rosters, absences, and disciplinary processes where required Ensure staff competency, certification, and training records are up to date

Fleet & Asset Management

Manage depot vehicles, equipment, and stock levels Ensure regular inspections, servicing, and maintenance are completed Control loss, damage, and replacement of traffic management assets

Financial & Commercial Control

Manage depot budgets and cost controls Monitor job profitability and resource efficiency Assist with pricing, forecasting, and reporting as required

Client & Stakeholder Liaison

Act as a key point of contact for clients, local authorities, and internal teams Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service delivery Support contract compliance and performance reporting

Skills & Experience

Essential

Proven experience in traffic management or highways operations Strong leadership and people management skills Sound knowledge of traffic management standards and legislation Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities Good IT and reporting skills Full driving licence

Desirable

Relevant traffic management qualifications (e.g. NHSS, TTM, STMS, or equivalent) Experience managing depots, fleets, or operational teams Budget management experience
