About The Role




As a Traffic Surveyor with our Transport Studies Survey Team, you'll be supporting the Place directorate whose purpose is to enable safe, reliable journeys and sustainable, prosperous places across Surrey.

Your core duties in this role will include:



Conducting a variety of traffic surveys, including: manual classified vehicle turning counts, pedestrian counts, queue length surveys, journey time, origin-destination, speed radar, roadside and bus surveys as instructed by the Survey Supervisor Working both independently and as part of a team to collect pedestrian, cyclist, vehicle, and passenger movement data Interviewing members of the public and bus passengers to gather information about travel behaviour, supporting improvements to bus routes and cycle infrastructure Accurately recording survey data and ensuring high standards of detail and reliability Adapting to both routine and ad-hoc survey assignments, which may involve early starts, late finishes, and travel across the county

This is a key role where you will contribute to ongoing monitoring and analysis projects, as well as supporting new initiatives to improve bus routes and cycle infrastructure. Your work will provide evidence for transport modelling and infrastructure improvements, helping us to shape safer, more sustainable journeys and places. The data you collect will help us make the strategic decisions that deliver tangible benefits to communities across the county.

Excellent time management and reliability Strong attention to detail to be able to accurately record information Ability to use initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a helpful and friendly attitude Good teamworking ability Availability for early starts and/or late finishes (typically between 7am and 7pm, however bus surveys may run between 6am and midnight

Candidates will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job (expenses for mileage and parking can be reclaimed).
