We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Accounts Assistant to join our growing finance team. This role is ideal for someone with solid bookkeeping experience in Xero, a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and a keen interest in developing their finance career.
The successful candidate will likely hold AAT Level 2 (Bookkeeping) or AATQB status, and we would be happy to support progression towards AAT Level 3 or MAAT qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Process purchase and sales invoices, credit notes, and staff expenses accurately in Xero.
Perform bank and credit card reconciliations, balance checks, and transaction reviews.
Maintain supplier and customer ledgers, ensuring recording is accurate and kept up to date.
Support month-end requirements, including accruals, prepayments, deferred income and reconciliations.
Assist with project purchasing, including purchase orders and cashflow reporting.
Prepare and maintain Excel spreadsheets for analysis, reporting and reconciliations.
Support with VAT returns, fixed asset tracking, and other financial schedules
Assist with payroll administration, such as issuing payslips and tracking holidays and expenses.
Provide general administrative and reporting support to the Finance Director.
Contribute ideas to improve processes and enhance reporting efficiency.
Essential Skills
& Experience:
Solid experience in bookkeeping or financial administration (in business or practice).
Qualified to AAT Level 2 (Bookkeeping) or equivalent experience.
Confident user of Xero (posting journals, reconciling accounts, generating reports).
Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups and pivot tables.
Excellent attention to detail, methodical working style, and good organisational skills.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
AAT Level 3 or higher (higher rates may be offered for this level of experience).
Experience supporting external audits.
Exposure to payroll or HR administration.
