Trainee Agronomist – (co. Antrim – N.i)

Job Description

As part of the ongoing strategic growth and development of our Agronomy and Forage division, we now wish to appoint a Trainee Agronomist in Co. Antrim to assist with the delivery of our strategic plan.
The Role:
The Trainee Agronomist will undergo an extensive training program to become a BASIS and FACTS qualified Agronomist within our Agronomy and Forage team with responsibility for:

  • Providing customers with technical advice, crop walking with agronomy support on arable, root and forage crop production, including seed selection, crop nutrition, crop protection, soil nutrition and forage conservation, with responsibility for sales and customer management in the North Eastern Region.
  • Delivering a strategy to grow sales and increase market share within the sales territory for a leading range of high-quality products including; agro-chemicals, bio-stimulants, forage additives, cereal / grass seeds and fertiliser / lime products.
  • Maximise new business development opportunities, while keeping up to date with competitor's activities and market trends.
  • Engage and liaise with relevant Fane Valley colleagues within the Agronomy & Forages team, and through the wider Fane Valley Stores, Fane Valley Feeds and Fane Valley Animal Health Services to develop and foster relationships, while supporting wider Fane Valley Business in the sales region.
  • Attend training to develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills.
Candidate Requirements Essential:
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Northern Ireland agricultural industry, in particular arable and forage crop production.
  • A growth mindset, keen to learn and improve.
  • Strong people skills and a clear communicator, building rapport and trust with farmers and colleagues.
  • Attention to detail, with ability to prioritise a busy workload.
  • Organised and self-motivated with a 'Can do' attitude.
  • Confident with IT software - MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Hold a full UK driving licence; able to travel regularly within the sales region.
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
  • A 3rd level qualification in an agriculture-related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience on arable or mixed farms (placement, family farm, previous role).
  • Previous relevant on farm sales experience.
  • Awareness of key challenges in NI agriculture.
