Trainee Assistant Director
Location: Various production locations across Northern Ireland Salary: 12.60 per hour (Real Living Wage)
Contract: Fixed-term training placements (non-continuous)
Hours: 40 hours/week (prep/wrap weeks) | 60 hours/week (shoot weeks)
Closing Date: Monday 3rd November 2025 at 1pm

The Creative Industries New Entrants (CINE) Programme offers a chance to start a career in the screen industry through real-world experience, paid work, and hands-on training on professional sets.
This opportunity is open to new entrants aged 18+ who are currently underrepresented in the screen industries.
To be eligible, applicants must meet at least one of the following:
Be from an ethnic minority background
Have a disability
Be from a lower socio-economic background
About the Role
As a Trainee Assistant Director (AD), you'll support the Assistant Director team in organising the day-to-day running of a film or TV set. This includes helping to coordinate cast, crew, and extras, managing movement and logistics, and keeping the set running smoothly and safely.
You don't need previous experience, just enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
Before your first placement, you'll complete up to four weeks of paid industry training, covering:
Health & safety on set
Sustainability
Set etiquette
An introduction to the sound department with mentoring
Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Assistant Director team on set and at unit base
  • Helping manage cast and extras
  • Relaying messages and updates to other departments
  • Assisting with daily paperwork such as call sheets and schedules
  • Helping maintain quiet and order when filming
Essential Criteria
You must be able to show:
A genuine interest in film/TV and how things are made behind the scenes
Good communication/teamwork skills
A reliable and organised approach
Willingness to follow instructions and stay calm under pressure
The right to work in the UK and flexibility to work across Northern Ireland
Desirable Criteria
You don't need these to apply, but it helps if you have:
A full UK driving licence and access to transport
Any experience working with people, events, or logistics
An interest in building a long-term career in Film/TV
