We have an exciting opportunity to join the Child Psychology Team in Bradford Hospital's Clinical Health Psychology service as a Recruit to Train Trainee (Trainee Autism Spectrum Conditions / Learning Disabilities Practitioner), as part of the NHS England (NHSE) funded Recruit to Train Programme and is validated in Partnership with The Division of Psychology and Mental Health, School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, The University of Manchester.



We are recruiting for one trainee. The post holder will be training on the Postgraduate Certificate in Specialist Clinical Practice with Autistic Children and Young People, and Children and Young People with Learning Disabilities. They will carry out clinical work in our team to complement their studies and use their newly developed skills. We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic mental health practitioners to train and work within our team.



The focus of this role is on providing input to children and young people with long term physical health conditions and/or neurodevelopmental difference, disability, referred by Consultant Paediatricians within the Paediatric and Children's Development Services. Fluency in languages such as Urdu and Punjabi would be advantageous.



To support vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people, with emotional and mental ill health, to rise above life's challenges, build resilience, and achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.



The post available is a training role within and will work under supervision and is based at St Luke's Hospital, Clinical Health Psychology, as part of child psychology team, to deliver high-quality, brief outcome focused evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties.



The training and service experience will equip the post holder with the necessary, knowledge and capabilities to carry out their duties effectively.



The post holder will attend training face to face and online at the Psychological Therapies Training Centre based in Prestwich, Manchester. They will also be required to undertake self-study days and work in service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills.

The Children and Young Peoples Psychological Trainings Programme is a service transformation programme delivered by NHS England and partners which aims to improve existing children and young people's mental health services working across a range of settings and employers.



Salary adjustment for successful candidates:



New to the NHS:

If you are joining the NHS for the first time, you will be paid at the Apprentice Rate, which is currently 7.55 per hour (from April 2025) for the first year of your apprenticeship. After the first year, you will be paid the age-related National Minimum Wage for the remainder of your fixed-term contract.

Existing NHS Employees:

If you already have NHS experience, your pay will be determined in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions. This means you will receive a percentage of the relevant pay band for the role, reflective of your current qualifications and experience.
