We are seeking a dedicated and friendly Dental Receptionist/ Trainee Dental Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing excellent patient care while managing the front desk operations of our dental practice. This position requires strong communication and organisational skills to ensure a smooth and efficient patient experience.
Duties
Patient Management -
Welcome all patients arriving into the surgery with a smile, continue to communicate with them throughout their visit, anticipating any anxieties and answer any questions by always taking time to listen and help, noting any feedback. The patient should at all times have full confidence in the practice and leave the surgery with the same eye contact and smile they were greeted with.
To make sure no one feels neglected, especially if kept waiting.
To assist patients around the building and up and down the stairs.
Clinical Nursing -
Provide chairside assistance, ensuring that the correct equipment is available
Ensure the GDP runs on time.
Cleaning, sterilisation and storage of all dental equipment and instruments.
Ensure the surgery is kept tidy, clean and the surfaces are cleaned and disinfected in-between patients and at all times.
Setting up the surgery and treatment trays, ready for each patient.
Make sure all hazardous and non-hazardous waste is disposed of correctly.
Checking of day list, ensuring the GDP has the correct patient records available.
Take instruction from the GDP's and Practice Manager when required.
Ensuring referrals are sent by GDP and recorded as being sent and responses received.
Keep the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy and sterile as appropriate according to the practice's health and safety and infection control procedures and manufacturers' instructions.
Use all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order.
Ensure the care and welfare of patients.
Accurately complete patient clinical records as directed.
Handle all substances in accordance with health and safety policies.
Be familiar and comply with all health and safety rules and guidance, including PPE, COSHH, mercury handling, infection control, waste disposal etc.
Scan and label digital x-rays as directed by GDP.
Complete laboratory request forms, keep records of work sent, received and fitted.
Ensure adequate stocks of materials and other items within the surgery.
Ensure computer/written records are accurately maintained and securely stored.
Liaise with reception to ensure smooth patient communications and transfer of records.
Attend and participate in practice meetings.
Other duties as necessary for the efficient operation of the practice (perhaps including the duties and tasks of receptionist as required).
Undergo training as may be required to develop skills and abilities.
Attend refresher and update training for medical emergencies and CPR.
Act in accordance with the practice rules and code of conduct.
Work at other practice locations from time to time as required.
To be able to take over and run other surgeries when necessary.
Comply with current legislation such as fire, Health and safety, CQC regulations, RIDDOR and COSHH.
Decontamination duties -
Maintain communication between the decontamination room, surgery and reception.
Follow practice protocols for moving instruments between the surgeries and the decontamination room.
Ensuring clean and dirty zones remain separate areas and the processes within decontamination are carried out in the correct zones.
Handling and disposal of all hazardous waste, clinical waste and recycling correctly, following practice protocols.
Ensure all collections of hazardous waste are collected and a consignment note is received from the hazardous waste collection company.
Cleaning, disinfection, inspection, wrapping, sterilisation, labelling and storage of dental equipment and instruments.
Decontamination and disinfection of impressions and lab work coming from the surgeries into the decontamination room.
Ensure all instruments are decontaminated and put through the sterilisation process prior to sending for repair.
Ensure all single use items are disposed of.
Ensuring the decontamination room is kept, clean and the surfaces do not get cluttered.
Ensure daily and weekly checks and tests are carried out on all decontamination equipment, following practice protocols.
Immediately report any faults or errors on the cycles of the decontamination equipment in the decontamination room to the Lead Nurse.
To attend courses or in house training as required for further education.
Take instruction from the GDP's, Dental nurses, Practice Manager when required.
Qualifications
Previous experience in a dental or healthcare setting is preferred but not essential.
Strong patient care focus with excellent interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in English; additional languages are a plus.
Basic knowledge of nursing principles is advantageous.
Familiarity with IT systems and software used in dental practices.
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
