The Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) team is seeks an individual to join us as a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP)!



We are looking for candidates who have experience of working directly with children and young people (CYP) through a school setting or service provided to CYP. The ideal candidate will be committed to enhancing the lives of CYP. A degree is not a prerequisite for this position. Please refer to the attached information document for further details.



The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) provides Cognitive Behavioural Therapy interventions to children, young people, and their parents/carers. This MHST also delivers groups, workshops and assemblies to schools, staff, and parents/carers.



Currently, B&NES offers our support to 43 schools across the region. As a Trainee EMHP, you will receive support to meet the requirements of the University course and develop into a proficient and confident practitioner. You will be assigned several schools, but travel across the B&NES area will be necessary to fulfil the role's responsibilities.

In this role, you will train to deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health problems. This will be through 1:1 interventions, parent led interventions, groups, workshops, and assemblies. You will work in collaboration with other EMHP's / CWP's to deliver groups, workshops assemblies and staff training.



You will work closely with the school/college mental health leads to develop a Whole School and College Approach to mental health and wellbeing within your allocated schools.



Your training year will be focused on attending University and developing your intervention skills in the MHST, working in schools when you are not at University. You will need to meet the entry requirements for the University course, detailed in the attached FAQs.



Through the course, you will be supported to build your skills to deliver 1:1 and group interventions to children, young people and caregivers within education establishments, under expert supervision. You will also learn about and support with the Whole School and college Approach to mental health and wellbeing.



You will be required to successfully complete the Mental Health Practice in Education Settings training with the University of Exeter as either a post graduate or undergraduate. On successful completion of the EMHP training course, you will be able to apply for a permanent band 5 position in the team.

The University course is delivered by the University of Exeter, with 40% in person and 60% online. A remote option maybe considered by the University, you therefore must be able to travel to Exeter when required by the University.



In previous years, Face to Face teaching has been 1-3 times a week during the six months of University teaching. There is also an expectation that private study will be conducted during study days and potentially outside of working hours.
