Trainee Hoist / Stairlift Engineer

Merthyr Tydfil, WLS, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About Us

At

TPG DisableAids

, we don't just fit stairlifts -- we help people stay independent, safe, and confident in their own homes. As one of the UK's leading mobility specialists and proud winners of

BHTA Retailer of the Year

, we're recognised for our quality, care, and commitment to improving lives.

We're now offering an exciting opportunity for a

Trainee Stairlift Engineer

to join our friendly and experienced team. If you're technically minded, enjoy hands-on work, and are looking to build a rewarding long-term career, this could be the perfect next step.

The Role

As a trainee, you'll work alongside experienced engineers while learning how to install, service, and repair stairlifts, overhead hoists, and other mobility equipment used in customers' homes. This is a highly practical, varied role where no two days are the same -- from solving mechanical or electrical issues to helping customers regain mobility and independence.

You'll receive full training and support, with a clear pathway to becoming a fully qualified engineer. Please note, this is a

trainee position

, and as such, the starting salary reflects a trainee wage -- but your pay will grow as your skills and responsibilities increase.

What We're Looking For

To succeed in this role, you'll need a practical background and the enthusiasm to learn every aspect of the trade. We're looking for someone who:

Has

at least one year of practical experience

in an electrical or mechanical environment. Is confident using hand and power tools safely and efficiently. Has a genuine interest in engineering, repairs, or hands-on troubleshooting. Communicates clearly and takes pride in good customer service. Is reliable, patient, and eager to develop new skills. Holds a full UK driving licence (or is close to obtaining one). Lives within commutable distance of Herefordshire or South Wales, as some travel across the region will be required.

What You'll Learn

Installation, servicing, and repair of stairlifts and overhead hoists. LOLER safety testing and inspection procedures. Electrical and mechanical fault-finding. Customer communication and professional service delivery. Safe working practices and equipment handling.

What We Offer

Full, structured training with hands-on mentoring. Progression to a qualified engineer role with pay reviews as you advance. Supportive team culture and approachable management. Overtime opportunities once trained. Up to 5% employer-matched pension contribution. A meaningful career helping people live independently every day.
If you're a practical, hands-on individual with a year or more of mechanical or electrical experience -- and you want to build a career where your work truly makes a difference -- we'd love to hear from you.
