About the Role
We are recruiting a Trainee Pharmacy Assistant to join our friendly, professional team. This is an entry-level role, ideal for someone looking to begin a rewarding career in community pharmacy.
Full-time, permanent role (following probation)
Entry-level position - no previous pharmacy experience required

You will support the pharmacy team in:
Dispensing prescriptions under supervision
Advising patients on over-the-counter medicines
Delivering excellent customer service
Supporting stock management, health campaigns, and the smooth running of the pharmacy

Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Patient Care
Provide a friendly and professional service to customers and patients
Assist patients with over-the-counter medicines and refer to the pharmacist where necessary
Handle prescription enquiries and provide accurate waiting time information
Dispensing & Pharmacy Support
Assist with preparation and dispensing of prescriptions (under supervision)
Ensure medicines are accurately labelled and dispensed according to regulations
Process repeat prescription requests and liaise with GP surgeries
Learn and follow NHS Scotland protocols and pharmacy regulations
Stock Management & Housekeeping
Support stock control, ordering and safe storage of medicines
Ensure shelves are stocked and medicines are in date
Maintain cleanliness, organisation and compliance with health and safety standards
Health Promotion & Community Engagement
Support NHS health campaigns and seasonal services (e.g. flu jabs, smoking cessation, travel health)
Promote pharmacy services such as Pharmacy First Scotland
Training & Development
Receive structured training in pharmacy services
Work towards an accredited pharmacy qualification (e.g. SVQ/NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services)
Gain experience with pharmacy IT systems
Learn about patient confidentiality and controlled drug regulations
Shadow senior staff to build confidence and skills
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Excellent communication skills and a friendly approach
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work as part of a team
Good numeracy and literacy skills
IT and computer skills
Minimum National 5 (grade C or above) in English and Maths
Desirable:
Previous retail or customer service experience
An interest in healthcare, science, or pharmacy
Knowledge of NHS services and the role of community pharmacies
(No prior pharmacy experience is necessary - full training provided.)
