The Opportunity




We are currently looking for a Trainee Asphalt Plant Operative to join our friendly team based at Melbur asphalt plant near Newquay.


Reporting directly to the Plant Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for operating computer software tomix asphalt to specification, working with other members of the team to ensure that customers get good quality material and on-time deliveries. Learning how to operate mobile plant like wheeled loading shovels, mini diggers and telescopic handlers.

The Trainee Asphalt Plant Operative will work with an internal team to learn how to plan the mixing program, ensuring that stocks are maintained and replenished in good time.

You will also carry out inspections on the plant and carry out housekeeping tasks and basic daily maintenance. The plant starts early in the morning till late night but we are flexible with timings.

Role Responsibility





General, Health and Safety and Environmental-

Promote health and safety to the highest standard within the site. Notify line management of any safety concerns, near misses or incidents.Ensure the depot is operating within the operating permit as detailed by the IPPC Permit and issued by the local authority. Ensure all staff, contractors and visitors are inducted to company standards prior to accessing the site. Participate in safety tours,meetings & training.

Fixed plant operations-

Carry out fixed plant pre-start checks and ensure that plant is safe to operate. Produce mixed material on the asphalt plant using computer software for dispatch in line with company specifications. Operate the plant in a controlled, safe and cost effective manner. Maximise RAP input through good mixing practices.Minimise waste.Report any defects to line management. Order raw materials.

Mobile Plant Operation

- Carry out pre-start checks on mobile plant and ensure that it is safe operation.Report any defects to line management. To oversee the safe tipping of road based aggregate deliveriesReduce contamination of aggregates through effective stockpile management. To carry out maintenance including greasing visual inspections as per the schedule.

Weighbridge Operations-

Provide the highest standards of customer service in a polite and helpful manner. Weigh vehicles in/out using weighbridge equipment and software. Complete records and logs for weighbridge and asphalt operations. Communication with external and internal customers. Control of vehicles and tipping operations

Plant Maintenance & Housekeeping-

Maintain the highest standard of housekeeping at all times.Assist the maintenance team with routine & non routine maintenance tasks. To carry out plant maintenance and visual inspections as per Planned Preventative Maintenance Scheme

Who you are





The ideal candidate will possess good communication skills and have a real desire to learn and develop both operational and supervisory skills. Basic mathematics and IT skills are essential. Previous experience working as an Operative, Operator or Labourer is preferred but not essential, as full training will be given.
