At MET Group Power Systems, we are a provider of power system engineering solutions to critical facilities by specialising in the design, analysis and optimisation of electrical networks up to 132kV.

Our expertise spans the detailed design of private electrical networks and substations as well as completion of the associated studies such as load flow, short circuit analysis, protection coordination, arc flash calculations, harmonics, motor acceleration, transient stability, grid code compliance, earthing and control system integration.

The Role

We are seeking a motivated Trainee Power Systems Engineer to join our team based in Plymouth's Royal William Yard. We are interested in speaking to current or former industrial electrician's with a minimum of an electrical engineering HNC or candidates with relevant experience.

The candidate will initially work on a multi national arc flash contract including short circuit analysis, equipment evaluation, protection coordination, arc flash calculations and implementation of remedial works.

Some site based travel is expected with the majority of time spent working in the Plymouth office or at home.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the project lead with delivery of engineering designs across HV, LV, generation and earthing systems.

Development and validation of electrical system models.

Take ownership of assigned projects ensuring quality, compliance and cost control.

Produce detailed designs, specifications and calculations under guidance.

Build and maintain client relationships.

Prepare technical reports and presentations for clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential:

Minimum of a HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related field.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Site experience in an industrial or critical facility environment.

Basic understanding of power system fundamentals (symmetrical components, fault analysis and protection systems etc.)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable:

Familiarity with power system analysis tools (ETAP, PSCAD, DigSilent etc.)

Familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit.

Knowledge of BS, IEC and IEEE standards as well as UK Grid Code.

Interest in renewable energy integration and smart grid technologies.

Ability to effectively use Python for data analytics.

Experience with HV systems.
