We are looking for a Trainee Retail Store Manager who will pro-actively lead by example and deliver a true retail customer experience. As a Trainee Retail Store Manager at Uniform Direct, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing store operations and leading a team to achieve sales targets, maintaining our commitment to quality and customer service while driving the success of our retail outlet.
JOB PURPOSE
Generate maximum profit to support, through the effective management of staff, and resources and provide a quality, customer focused service.
Maintain effective working relationships with managers, staff, and school contacts in order to achieve business objectives and create a positive and professional atmosphere.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
Effectively attract, recruit, train, develop and review branch staff.
Effectively attract new business leads and effectively maintain and increase existing client base.
Effectively plan, prioritise, delegate, monitor and review the branch's workload, to ensure compliance with management instructions Uniform Direct policies and procedures.
Team Building Success
Create an environment in which staff are involved, informed and motivated towards achieving business aims and objectives.
Effectively collaborate with colleagues, managers and external contacts to achieve common goals.
Achievement of Results
Devise, implement and review, in conjunction with Head Office, an annual branch business plan, with headings of:
- Existing School sales analysis
- New School acquisition target list and sales analysis
- New product take up with existing schools
- Anticipating and developing staff and levels;
- Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats analysis
- Identifying trends and remedial action, which will include promotional activities, required to sustain financial targets.
Working towards promoting Uniform Direct as the first name in school uniform retailing, through creating positive customer relationships and continuously improving all aspects of the business.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Follow safe systems of work at all times in accordance with your responsibilities as an employee and Uniform Direct's Health and Safety and fire policies and procedures. Inform Head Office of any defects in Health and Safety arrangements in the workplace or in workplace activities, so that remedial action can be taken to prevent an accident or ill health.
JOB PROFILE
Responsible for running the branch to meet company's targets and policies. The aim being to maximise profit whilst minimising costs. Must ensure promotions are accurate and merchandised to the company's standards and staff are fully versed on the targets and must ensure excellent customer care standards are met. You are required to deal with staff planning, marketing, logistics, information technology, daily reconciliation, customer service, excellent liaison with current schools and continued development of new business.
Duties
manage and motivate a team to increase sales and ensure efficiency;
manage stock levels and make key decisions about stock control;
analyse sales/staff figures and forecast future sales volumes to maximise profits;
analyse and interpret trends to facilitate planning;
liaise with head office for data analysis and forward planning;
deal with staffing issues such as interviewing potential staff, conducting appraisals and performance reviews, as well as providing or organising training and development;
ensure standards for quality, customer service, health and safety, and fire are met;
resolve health and safety, legal and security issues;
ensure conformity of basic Trading Standards legislation
respond to customer complaints and comments;
promote the organisation locally by liaising with local schools, newspapers and the community in general- by telephone and in person.
mobility using own transport is an advantage.
organise special promotions, displays and events in store, other venues and in schools.
attend and chair meetings in store, other venues and in schools.
update colleagues on business performance, new initiatives and other pertinent issues;
tour the sales floor regularly, talking to colleagues and customers, and identifying or resolving urgent issues;
maintain awareness of market trends in the school uniform industry, understand forthcoming customer initiatives and monitor and report on what local competitors are doing;
initiate changes to improve the business, e.g. revising opening hours to ensure the store can compete effectively in the local market; dealing with sales, as and when required.
lead by example - Housekeeping, Flexible/Irregular working including late nights, weekends and bank holidays to meet the demands of the business at peak times, personal presentation (this list is not exhaustive)
react to consumer's demands and industry trends and pressures of meeting targets
attend training to develop relevant knowledge and skills
respond to out of hours alarm activations.

EXPERIENCE OF
Working within retail/service industry with particular regard to customer services/customer contact, working in a team environment, managing a group of staff, basic administration, filing, stock taking and simple analysis of figures.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE
An awareness of how to identify and develop the market potential of a shop and respond to local needs.
An awareness of fashion and retail trends and how to relate these to a Uniform Direct retail branch.

Full clean driving licence and own transport.
Knowledge and competent in the use of IT systems.

CIRCUMSTANCES
Flexible approach to working hours/days including:
- working Weekends is the nature of retail, plus Bank Holidays as appropriate and when required
- Assisting area team, including cover at other branches.
There will be a need to travel to schools and other venues to attend meetings/chair meetings, deliver/collect stock/displays using own transport - all in relation to existing and potential new clients, training events etc, which will include occasional long distances and out of hours attendance.
Able to access a telephone and be accessible by telephone to provide out of hours emergency call cover.
There will be a need to lift on a frequent basis, items of various sizes and weights.
