Trainee Solicitor/sqwe Or Junior Solicitor

England - Wales, United Kingdom

Job Description

Liverpool Hope University has an exciting opportunity for either a Trainee Solicitor (including Solicitor's Qualifying Experience) or qualified Junior Solicitor to work as part of the Governance and Legal Service team.
The successful candidate will join a small, friendly team of staff, dealing with a wide range of legal and regulatory matters, for example dealing with student complaints, student misconduct and compliance with the requirements of the Higher Education Regulator, the Office for Students.
The majority of legal cases are dealt with in-house and the successful candidate (depending on qualification and experience) may assist or lead on litigation, contract and property matters.
The post-holder will also support the wider work of the team by assisting with data protection matters, advice relating to the Equality Act, supporting Freedom of Information and Subject Access Requests, drafting University policies and attending University Committees. The work is varied, interesting and rewarding.
Depending on experience and qualification, applicants will either have:
Trainee Solicitor/Solicitors Qualifying Work Experience post

  • Law degree or equivalent, and preferably will have completed or be studying the LPC or Solicitors' Qualifying Examination
Junior Solicitor
  • Qualified to practice as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales
Applicants for both roles will have the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a range of audiences, as well as the ability to build effective relationships internally and externally. Professionalism, an enthusiasm to learn, attention to detail and meticulous record keeping are important skills for the role.
For the avoidance of doubt, the University is advertising ONE role, which could be at either level outlined above. Candidates should outline on their application form whether they are applying for the role of Trainee Solicitor/SQWE or Junior Solicitor.
This post is permanent, subject to the 12-month probationary period.
