We are small to medium-sized Stonemasonry company, that prides itself in masoning and supplying exceptionally high-quality stonework. We work with leading architects and developers, and work on some of the finest historic houses and monuments in the UK.

We have several opportunities for a trainee Stonemason to join our highly skilled team of masons working from our rural south Shropshire workshop overlooking the Shropshire hills.

All trainee Stonemasons will learn the skills needed to cut, shape, and lay stones using a range of specialised masonry tools. You will be involved with building or repairing structures such as arches, porticos, walls and monuments from your first day with us (please look at our website McMillanHolder.com to see the type of work we do)



To ensure success as a stonemason, you should have a strong desire to learn craftsmanship skills, have a good eye for detail, and the confidence and strength to work on construction sites.

Trainee Stonemason Responsibilities:

Using specialist equipment to take out old masonry from existing structures.

Mixing lime mortar and cement.

Cutting and shaping stones to desired dimensions.

Using chisels and mallet to ensure correct finish is achieved on stones

Measuring and templating complex masonry in order to faithfully reproduce a new replacement stone at the banker workshop

Laying stones according to construction plans or project specifications.

Operating cranes, hoists, or heavy machinery to move stones.

Pointing and fixing newly installed masonry

Please note this is not a regular job, this is the chance to learn age old craftsmanship skills that will stay with you for a lifetime whilst working in some of the UKs most beautiful locations, on some of its most beautiful historic buildings, whilst also working alongside other likeminded craftsmen and women.

Stonemason Requirements:

Must hold a full UK drivers licence and have your own transport to and from site

Must be physically fit and able to manipulate heavy objects

High level of motivation

Some previous experience within a construction environment is ideal but not essential

Ability to work outdoors and in noisy areas for extended periods of time (all necessary PPE will be provided)

Benefits:

Hours 8 am to 5 pm

Option to be paid bi-weekly if preferred
