Job Purpose:
To assist in the coordination, planning, and monitoring of streetworks activities across the Scottish road network. The Trainee Streetworks Coordinator will support compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA), Transport (Scotland) Act, and related codes of practice, ensuring that all works are carried out safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to the public.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the scheduling and coordination of streetworks and utility activities.
Assist in submitting and managing notices via the Scottish Road Works Register (SRWR).
Help liaise with local authorities, contractors, and statutory undertakers to plan and manage works effectively.
Learn to ensure compliance with the NRSWA and Transport (Scotland) Act requirements.
Support the review of permits, notices, and reinstatement records.
Assist in monitoring reinstatement quality and defect resolution in accordance with national standards.
Communicate with site teams, utility companies, and local authorities regarding planned and emergency works.
Support the coordination of traffic management plans and public notifications.
Respond to customer or stakeholder queries under supervision.
Input and maintain accurate records in the SRWR and internal systems.
Assist in preparing reports on performance, compliance, and coordination outcomes.
Learn to interpret data on works durations, overruns, and defects.
Observe and promote health and safety standards in all operations.
Support initiatives that minimise environmental impact and disruption to road users.
Attend site visits as required to develop understanding of on-site operations.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word).
Willingness to learn technical systems such as the Scottish Road Works Register (SRWR).

Experience & Qualifications:
No prior experience required; training will be provided.
Driving licence (desirable).
Interest in highways, civil engineering, utilities, or network management.
Training & Development:
