About Alliance Living Housing Association



Alliance Living Housing Association provides supported housing to individuals experiencing homelessness across Birmingham and Solihull. We offer safe, shared accommodation in properties where residents live in individual rooms.

Our aim is to offer people a stable home and the chance to rebuild their lives. We support this by managing our properties to a high standard, encouraging independence, and helping residents maintain successful tenancies. We also bring residents together once or twice a week at the properties for group sessions and informal support.

About the Role



We're looking for a

Trainee Housing Officer

to join our team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to begin a career in housing and is eager to learn how to manage shared accommodation professionally and effectively.

You'll gain hands-on experience supporting the day-to-day running of properties, helping residents maintain their tenancies, and carrying out regular checks to ensure everything is safe, clean, and compliant. You need to have worked in housing before, just a strong work ethic, a proactive attitude, and a genuine interest in working with people.

Please note: This is not a care or support worker role. Applicants with a care background must show how their experience relates to housing and tenancy management.

Key Responsibilities



Tenancy & Property Management



Carry out

daily checks

on properties and communal areas to ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance Support residents to understand and stick to house rules and tenancy agreements Report and follow up on minor maintenance issues Ensure communal areas are well maintained and any damage is documented and addressed Flag any safeguarding or welfare concerns to the team promptly

Resident Engagement



Build professional, positive relationships with residents Encourage residents to take responsibility for their living spaces Help prepare and participate in

weekly group sessions

(1-2 per week) held in the shared properties Support senior staff in managing low-level resident issues or disputes where needed

Administration & Reporting



Complete basic reports, property checklists, and tenancy notes Keep clear records in line with organisational procedures Assist with health and safety checks and fire safety compliance Learn how to work with external agencies or partner services when required

What We're Looking For



Essential:



Strong organisational skills and a keen eye for detail Good written and verbal communication Willingness to learn on the job and take feedback Basic IT skills (Word, email, etc.) Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential due to site visits) Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends if needed

Desirable:



Any experience in housing, property, support, or working with vulnerable people Awareness of issues linked to homelessness, housing, or tenancy support Confidence in handling responsibility and working independently
