What exactly do trade mark attorneys do?



A trade mark attorney provides expert guidance to clients on all aspects of trade mark use, protection, and enforcement. A key part of the role involves conducting clearance searches to determine whether trade marks are available for use, and preparing and managing trade mark applications that align with the client's commercial objectives. The role also includes overseeing international portfolio management and advising on a broad range of contentious matters, such as oppositions, revocations, invalidity actions, and infringement disputes.



What makes a good trade mark attorney?

A strong academic background in law, languages or humanities. Good communication skills that can be adapted for clients from a variety of commercial and cultural backgrounds. The ability to make confident judgement calls based on information provided. Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work effectively. A good eye for detail and accuracy.
