Ready to turn your curiosity into a career that makes a real difference?
If you're someone who's curious, community-minded and keen to make a real difference, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. Whether you're just starting out or looking to pivot into a meaningful career, this trainee role offers a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in Trading Standards while working towards a nationally recognised Level 6 apprenticeship qualification. If you're passionate about protecting consumers, supporting businesses, and upholding the law, we'd love to hear from you.
 What's the role all about?
As a Trainee Trading Standards Officer, you'll be part of our Commercial Regulatory Team, helping to deliver a wide range of services that protect the public and ensure businesses operate fairly and legally. You'll be working towards a Level 6 Trading Standards Professional Apprenticeship, with a focus on tobacco and vape legislation, while gradually taking on more complex responsibilities. From investigating complaints and conducting inspections to supporting enforcement actions and gathering evidence, you'll play a vital role in maintaining high standards across our communities.
What will your day look like?
You will be out in the community conducting inspections, supporting surveillance operations, or helping to resolve complaints from residents and businesses. You'll be using technology to maintain records, draft reports, and analyse data, all while learning the ropes of regulatory enforcement. With guidance from experienced officers, you'll develop the skills to carry out interviews under caution, seize illegal goods, and contribute to legal proceedings. You'll also be a key point of contact for service requests and advice, acting as the eyes and ears of the wider regulatory team.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for someone with a genuine interest in Trading Standards and a desire to learn. You'll need to be adaptable, organised, and confident in communicating with a wide range of people. A good understanding of data protection, equality and diversity principles, and the ability to manage conflict are essential. You'll also need a full driving licence and be comfortable working flexibly across different sites, sometimes outside of core hours. If you're ready to commit to your development and contribute to a safer, fairer community, we want to hear from you.
Why join us?
If you're curious, community-minded, and driven to make a real impact, this is your chance to start a rewarding career in Trading Standards. Whether you're just beginning your journey or seeking a meaningful career change, our Trainee Trading Standards Officer role offers hands-on experience within a supportive team, while you work towards a nationally recognised Level 6 apprenticeship qualification. You'll be part of a dedicated Commercial Regulatory Team, helping to protect consumers, support businesses, and uphold the law. With a focus on tobacco and vape legislation, you'll gain practical skills through inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions--all while developing professionally under the guidance of experienced officers.
