Play a key role in our Highway Maintenance and Commercial Team as a Trainee Training and Safety Coordinator.
You'll be joining our dynamic and vibrant team of approximately 80 enthusiastic and motivated professionals who are site or office based and have diverse background and experience.
City Highways are responsible for the maintenance and development of over 500 miles of road and 800 miles of footpaths within the city of Leicester. We undertake construction and maintenance of highway, traffic and transport infrastructure projects, including major public realm schemes to improve the pedestrian and transport network within the City Centre. We also provide winter service and gully cleaning services in the city.
This is a full time, permanent role working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday. Typical working hours are 8am-4.00pm Monday to Thursday and 8am-3.30pm on a Friday. You'll be based at the Castle Park Depot, 90 Leycroft Road, LE4 1BZ, Leicester.
What you'll be doing
As a Trainee Training and Safety Coordinator you'll be expected to undertake a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Level 3 Apprenticeship. The employer will assist you in arranging and achieving this qualification.
In addition to your education, you'll be responsible for supporting the team in planning and co-ordinating training and experiential development of operational and office staff to meet both the statutory and service needs. You'll participate in developing and maintaining Health, Safety & Welfare management systems, implementing measures to monitor and improve safety performance and reduce risk to staff and members of the public.
Not one day will be the same in this varied role, daily tasks will include, but not be limited to:

  • Coordination of training requirement and training matrix review.
  • Assisting H&S investigations.
  • Daily monitoring of site safety inspections and H&S procedures.
  • Updating staff training and H&S records.
  • Assisting more experience staff in undertaking H&S inspections.
Maintaining and facilitating the First Aid training requirement and carry out regular auditing of First Aid equipment in the depot and on site
Within this role, you'll liaise with a variety of different stakeholders and attend regular meetings.
What you'll need
As an enthusiastic individual you'll show dedication to improving your experience and job knowledge of H&S in construction. You'll have proficient IT skills and excellent interpersonal skills. You'll be confident in both speaking and writing about health and safety processes to a range of people. Within your role, you'll have the opportunity to work alone but also play an integral role in a team full of individuals with variable experience, background and authority. You'll need to be able to work outside occasionally in adverse weather conditions to undertake site visits. You'll need to have GCSE's Grade 4 or above in English and Maths and a valid Driving License Cat B or be in the process of obtaining it.
