Jim Lawrence are a family run manufacturing business based in Hadleigh, Suffolk, specialising in lighting and home interiors. We are seeking a trainee/graduate Product Designer to assist and support the design team in the development of innovative products, working under the guidance of Senior Designers.
This is an entry-level role aimed at developing skills and gaining experience across the full product development process from concept through to production, creating 3D models, technical drawings and design documentation using SolidWorks software.

Key areas of responsibility -
Support senior designers and engineers with preparation of 3D CAD models, assemblies and detailed technical drawings using SolidWorks.
Contribute to the creation of new products, from concept sketches to functional prototypes.
Update and maintain design files, drawings and revision control within the company's document management system.
Assist in preparing and updating supporting documentation, such as producing bills of materials (BOMs), Fitting Instructions and other manufacturing documentation.
Liaise with internal departments (production, procurement, quality) to ensure designs meet manufacturing and customer requirements.
Support prototype builds and testing, recording any changes or feedback.
Learn and apply company standards, design procedures, quality requirements and relevant regulations.
Participate in training and development programmes to improve SolidWorks and engineering knowledge.
Essential skills -
Relevant engineering, product design or manufacturing qualification (BTEC, HNC, or degree) - or currently studying.
Good communication and people skills for articulating ideas to colleagues and suppliers.
Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams as well as independently, with good time and deadline management.
Strong sketching and visual communication skills.
Good problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.
Interest in product development with a creative flair for contributing new and innovative product ideas
Basic understanding of CAD principles and technical drawings; some familiarity with SolidWorks is desirable (training provided).
Competent in MS Office suite.
