Derbyshire Addictions Advice Service (DAAS), a charitable organisation working as part of the Derbyshire Recovery Partnership, is looking to recruit a

Trainer

to join our Training and Promotions Team.

Role Overview:



As a Trainer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality training courses focused on Alcohol and Substance Awareness and Identification and Brief Advice (IBA). You will work in collaboration with the training team to further develop and evaluate training sessions aimed at front-line health, social, community professionals and workplaces across Derbyshire.

In addition to delivering training, you'll attend promotional events throughout Derbyshire to help promote addiction awareness and support services.

This is an office-based role located at our Chesterfield office, with occasional travel across Derbyshire for training delivery, promotional events, and service talks at various locations. A full UK driving licence, access to your own vehicle, and valid business use car insurance are essential. Non-commute related travel will be reimbursed

Required Skills and Experience:



Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent) or willing to work towards. Training/Teaching experience Strong communication and presentation skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) Strong teamwork and collaboration skills Independent travel across Derbyshire for training and promotional events

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:



Collaborate with the training team, DAAS Management, and subject experts to develop, deliver, and evaluate effective training courses. Deliver training sessions on Alcohol and Substance Awareness, including Identification and Brief Advice (IBA) and other addiction related topics to workplaces and front-line professionals in Derbyshire, across various platforms (face-to-face, digital, and remote). Create and maintain up to date, engaging training and marketing materials aligned with best practices and accessibility standards. Build and maintain strong relationships with local organisations to encourage participation in training programmes. Assist the training team in creating and managing social media content, including topics related to addiction awareness, available support services, and relevant initiatives, to help raise awareness and engage with the community. Provide advice and guidance during training or promotional events to referring agents, professionals, and individuals affected by alcohol and substance use, including concerned others and family members. Support the distribution of literature on services, treatment pathways, and training programmes to local organisations. Maintain and update the training resources database and professional contacts list. Engage in all required training for the role, including statutory and mandatory courses, as well as role-specific professional development. Attend staff meetings and participate in supervision and appraisals. Be flexible to meet service needs, including occasional evening and weekend work. Ensure compliance with data protection, confidentiality, and organisational policies. Attend external meetings or training as required. Mileage reimbursed in line with organisational policy.

Person Specification



Essential Qualifications

Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent). Educated to a minimum of GCSE or NVQ Level 2 in English and Maths.
Desirable Qualifications

Qualifications or training in counselling, psychology, social/community work, nursing, or related fields, with a focus on addiction, mental health, wellbeing, substance misuse, recovery, or trauma-informed care
Essential Experience

Delivering training to adults. Skilled in developing and adapting training content and materials for diverse audiences and learning styles. Knowledge or experience working in the voluntary or social care sector. Working as part of a team. Experience in promoting or marketing services or programmes.
Desirable Experience

Background in the substance use/addictions field. Familiarity with remote learning platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams). Experience in developing marketing or promotional materials. Familiarity with website/social media platforms.
Essential Skills/knowledge

Excellent communication and facilitation skills both in-person and virtual. Ability to create a positive and supportive learning environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams). Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Knowledge and understanding of alcohol, substance misuse and addictions. Capable of consistently following service policies and procedures. Capable of assessing information accurately and providing appropriate responses. Understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion
Desirable Skills/knowledge

Experience or certification in Alcohol and Substance Use or related fields. Knowledge of local and national substance misuse and addiction strategies. Experience in developing and designing training programs. Proficiency in Canva or similar design software.

Other requirements

Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle. Willingness to travel regularly across Derbyshire. Commitment to continuous professional development.

Subject specific i.e. alcohol, substance and addictions training will be provided.

Contract:

2 years fixed-term contract

Hours:

22.5 hours per week

Salary:

17,538 per annum (FTE: 28,841)
