Job Description

The Trainee Dispensary Assistant supports the safe and efficient supply of medicines and healthcare products within the pharmacy. Under the supervision of qualified pharmacy staff, the trainee will learn core dispensary skills, customer service, stock management, and regulatory requirements while working towards a recognised pharmacy qualification.

Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesDispensary Support



Assist in the preparation, labelling, and dispensing of prescriptions under supervision. Learn to accurately read prescriptions and understand basic pharmaceutical terminology. Support the assembly of monitored dosage systems (MDS/Blister Packs), where applicable. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the dispensary area.

Customer Service



Provide friendly, professional, and helpful assistance to patients and customers. Advise customers on the safe and effective use of over-the-counter medicines (under supervision and once appropriately trained). Handle customer queries and refer clinical questions to the pharmacist.

Stock Management



Receive, check, and put away pharmaceutical stock following SOPs. Assist in monitoring stock levels, removing out-of-date medicines, and rotating stock. Help with placing orders and managing returns, shortages, and recalls.

Compliance and Record Keeping



Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and legal requirements. Support in maintaining accurate records for prescriptions, CD registers, fridge logs, and other documentation. Learn and comply with GPhC, NHS, and local pharmacy regulations.

General Duties



Assist with housekeeping, ensuring a clean, safe, and well-organised pharmacy environment. Support pharmacy team members with daily tasks as required. Participate in training sessions, assessments, and progress reviews.

Qualifications and Experience



Required:



No formal experience necessary. GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths preferred. Must be willing to undertake an accredited qualification such as: NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services*, or
Buttercups / NPA / equivalent Dispensary Assistant course*.

Contract length: 18 months

Pay: From 12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 15 - 30 per week

Work Location: In person
