This is a critical leadership position where every decision shapes how we respond to the public. From life-threatening emergencies to complex safeguarding concerns, every contact counts, and so does every decision we make.

Why this role matters

The Force Command Centre (FCC) is at the heart of policing in Surrey. It's where all contact and incident deployment is managed. We are driven by a strong sense of public service, acting with professional curiosity to assess risk and make decisions based on need, not assumption.

As FIM, you will:

Lead live operations from a fast-paced, dynamic environment Direct and influence critical incidents, including high-risk missing persons, spontaneous firearms incidents (SFIs), and crimes in action Lead and support teams of contact and dispatch supervisors, helping drive performance, uphold standards, and deliver the highest quality of service to the public Balance people, performance, and risk with confidence and clarity, shift by shift
You'll work closely with call handlers, dispatchers, and senior leaders across the organisation. Your decisions will directly impact public trust, officer safety, and our operational effectiveness.

What you'll gain

Initial Tactical Firearms Commander (ITFC) accreditation and ongoing tactical development Trained in Pursuit Management Insight and exposure to the operational workings of the entire force Successful candidates will have the opportunity to lead a fast-paced highly trained team, as well as developing strong professional and supportive working relations with our partner agencies.
You'll work a 4-on, 4-off rotating shift pattern, covering both day and night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays, and report to the Force Silver. The role is based at Surrey Police Headquarters in the FCC.

Opportunities available

We are looking to recruit into FIM vacancies and the support CADRE. We welcome applications from substantive Inspectors, including those undertaking their Work-Based Assessment (WBA).

The support CADRE is a selected number of trained Inspectors who do not work within the command but are part of a support rota trained to ITFC level to assist with abstractions, leave, training etc.

How to apply

Please submit an Expression of Interest via Talentlink, outlining your relevant skills, experience, and why this opportunity is right for you. Your submission should be no more than 1000 words and must be received by Sunday 23rd August.

Provide initial command and supervision of critical incidents, recognising when incidents require escalation to Critical Incident Managers or specialist teams due to their complexity or potential impact. Initiate and resource the Special Events Centre in the early stages of major or critical incidents to ensure a coordinated response. Offer advice and operational support to Duty Officers, including guidance on inter-departmental support, partner agency coordination, and officer/staff safety and welfare at incidents.
