Job Description

The University of Northampton are looking for a Transformation Business Analyst on a temporary basis to support the existing team.

The Transformation Business Analyst is expected to become UON's Transformation expert and will be expected to play an active role in assisting all aspects of UON's Change and Transformation programme: leading investigative activities to identify root causes of problems, elicit stakeholder requirements, produce required documentation, support transitional activities, lead testing or training and presenting information to stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities



Act as Transformation expert and be responsible for providing business analysis expertise and advice or, where required, to ensure the delivery of outcomes that achieve identified and approved business needs and goals. Consult with all necessary stakeholders (university and external) as part of business analysis activities. Create documentation necessary and requested by project managers to support project development, audit and approval stages (meeting and boards). Responsible for identifying, advising on the use of the most appropriate business analysis tools and techniques for project tasks, and where required, using these tools and techniques to document outcomes from workshops, meetings and other data and information gathering forums, including but not limited to; requirements elicitation activities, process and system design and redesign, modelling and other business analysis related tasks. Act as Transformation expert on business design, integration, technical and business-related aspects of the Change and Transformation Programme. Create and manage lasting relationships with stakeholders across the business to ensure that they have a communication channel and support when seeking IT resource for new projects and initiatives. On occasion, be responsible for presenting to stakeholders as well as arranging and leading meetings, workshops and focus groups, conducting interviews etc. in support of requirements gathering and elicitation activities, or, to support process re-design. Tasks include organising and planning meetings in advance, facilitating the necessary sessions, arranging documentation and writing up outcomes and ensuring regular communications with participants and other relevant stakeholders. Responsible for defining and managing IT testing activities as directed by the project manager, including the creation of test strategy documentation (incl. test plans), test cases that as a minimum directly related to the business requirement document, defect management though to defect remedy/acceptance, as well as facilitating the various testing activities (unit, system, integration etc.) during and project development and also prior to delivery (UAT testing) for assigned projects. Required to present / share findings on projects, advise on best practice or communicate outcomes and process changes, deliverables and project activities to internal and external audiences. Responsible for ensuring that requirements are fully elicited, prioritised, documented and approved prior to evaluation and selection or development of a solution, and, that all necessary and relevant documentation is completed and available (including an approved business case and PID). Support General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) evaluation, discussion and activities for assigned projects seeking where necessary, advice from governance and security management. Responsible for the creation and management of impact assessments such as Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA), Equalities Impact Assessment, sustainability or health and wellbeing, if identified as being required for assigned projects. Facilitate process review to provide opportunities for process redesign and provide expertise and resource to design / re-design business processes where necessary, identified and/or required. Deliver outputs to a high standard in accordance with agreed and defined timescales. On occasions, these timescales may be challenging due to the need to support priority projects or legislative needs.

Skills and experience



Educated to degree level or equivalent

BCS -Requirements Engineering

BCS - Business Analysis Diploma

BCS - Modelling Business Processes (or equivalent experience)

ITIL Foundation (Or relevant experience)

Prince 2 Foundation / Practitioner (or equivalent experience)

Experience working as a Business Analyst within a complex

Experience / knowledge of Higher Education business systems and functions

Knowledge and experience of using a range of techniques to enable requirements gathering and elicitation

Exceptional verbal and written ability

Extensive experience modelling business processes and conducting analysis of both the internal and external business environment

Project Management Experience

Knowledge and experience working as a Business Analyst within an Agile, Waterfall and Prince 2 framework

Ability to think holistically, listen and quickly grasp key points and concepts

Proactive, organised and has a strong focus on adding value and improvement

Able to demonstrate working in a fast-evolving and pressurised team centric environment

Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to show empathy, assurance, influence and establish control where necessary

Ability to actively promote and support a customer-focused approach to business analysis

Able to assimilate new information quickly and explain concepts accurately and simply

Ability to work to a high degree of accuracy with attention to detail, maintaining high standards

Please note this role will be for 12 weeks in the first instance with a chance of extension for the right candidate.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Contract length: 3 months

Pay: 20.40 per hour

Expected hours: 37 per week
