Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and organised Transport Co-Ordinator to oversee and support the day-to-day logistics and transport operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, timely, and cost-effective movement of goods, while maintaining compliance with all legal, regulatory, and company requirements.

This role is pivotal in coordinating drivers, managing schedules, and liaising with internal teams and external partners to maintain high standards of service delivery and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities



Plan, allocate and monitor transport operations

, ensuring optimal use of vehicles and drivers.

Liaise with internal departments

(e.g. warehouse, production, customer service) to ensure smooth coordination of outbound and inbound deliveries.

Communicate effectively with drivers

, providing clear instructions, route plans, and schedules.

Monitor driver performance

and compliance with driving hours, tachograph data, and legal requirements.

Ensure vehicle compliance

, including MOTs, servicing, insurance, and defect reporting.

Manage transport documentation

, including delivery notes, manifests, vehicle checklists, and customer records.

Respond to delivery issues

, delays, and incidents, providing timely solutions and customer updates.

Support cost control efforts

, including fuel efficiency monitoring and route optimisation.

Maintain transport databases

, records, and KPIs for internal reporting and audit purposes.

Ensure adherence to health & safety, environmental, and legal standards

, including UK Road Transport and Working Time legislation.

Skills and Experience Required



Proven experience in a transport/logistics coordination or administration role. Strong understanding of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements. Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); experience with transport management systems (TMS) is advantageous. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritise and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Flexible and collaborative approach to work. Knowledge of vehicle types, routing, and scheduling best practices is desirable.

Qualifications



GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel etc Proficient in Sage. Relevant transport or logistics qualification (e.g. CPC, CILT, NVQ in Transport Operations) - desirable.

Working Environment



This role may be based in an office setting within a warehouse, transport depot, or logistics centre. Occasional visits to suppliers, customers, or transport hubs may be required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From 12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 37 per week
