General Manager Transport

Menzies Distribution are delighted to announce a fantastic opportunity for an experienced General Manager to lead our team in Coalville. The purpose of the role is to identify, organise and manage existing activity, providing operational leadership to the region as well as driving continuous business improvement. The successful candidate will focus on maximising profitable business growth, building strong customer relationships and delivering the highest standards of customer service. Assessing operational efficiencies will be part of your role along with; creating standardised processes and procedures, implementing improvements and changes to drive efficiencies across the region, identifying business development opportunities and implementing cost saving initiatives through strong leadership and development of the team. In addition to this, to maintain best practice, you will need to ensure all legislative and regulatory requirements are upheld and the highest standards of health and safety are maintained at all times whilst developing a culture of exceptional customer service and service delivery.

The Details:

  • Shift Pattern & Hours: Monday to Friday / Based on a basic 48 Hour Week (Or to the needs of the business)
  • Location: LE67 1TT
  • Holiday Allowance: 33 days inclusive of bank holidays
  • Salary: Competitive
Key Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Building and maintaining excellent customer relationships in order to develop a constantly improving service. Building trust and credibility, thoroughly understanding the customers\xe2\x80\x99 needs and their supply chain structure. Seek to identify and deliver organic growth opportunities with existing customers and drive for synergy benefits between customers and other sites within other Business Units.
  • Ensure that the company`s values and vision are achieved through the development of an open, interactive and communicative culture.
  • Participate in the sales process including defining the service, negotiating the contract and building close working relationships with customers.
  • Work closely with other business stakeholders to drive the business strategy.
  • Participate in the budgeting process and manage and work within the annual operating budget. Monitor operational metrics and challenge operational colleagues to ensure budgeted financial targets are exceeded.
  • Drive operational efficiencies and business growth \xe2\x80\x93 plan, do, check, act (PDCA).
  • Ensure all legislative and regulatory requirements are met with particular emphasis on tachograph, driver\xe2\x80\x99s hours, maintenance schedules and records. Exercise operational controls in order to protect the company\xe2\x80\x99s Operators License and regularly audit systems to ensure compliance
  • Set clear goals and targets for direct reports through the PDR process, recognisegood performance and professionally manage poor performance.
  • Provide a safe working environment, seeking opportunities to raise the profile of Health and Safety across the region.
  • Regularly review and define the capability required in the team and generate career progression opportunities for individuals who have the potential to develop.
Key Experience and Qualifications:
  • Experienced Logistics professional, graduate or with relevant qualifications who will have previously operated at a senior level and preferably have managed a multi-site region
  • Demonstrable experience of customer relationship management
  • Proven capability of leading a function through significant change
  • Experience of driving efficiency savings and business growth
  • Good financial and business acumen with experience of managing bud
