to oversee the planning, coordination, and management of our fleet operations. The ideal candidate will ensure full compliance with all transport legislation, manage driver performance, and maintain high standards of safety and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily HGV fleet operations, ensuring the efficient and compliant movement of goods.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including
Operator Licence (O-Licence) obligations
,
Driver Hours
,
Tachograph regulations
, and
Health & Safety
laws.
Monitor driver performance, conduct regular briefings and debriefings, and ensure all drivers have up-to-date training and certifications.
Liaise with maintenance teams or third-party providers to schedule regular inspections, MOTs, and servicing, ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy and meet legal standards.
Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, driver hours, fuel usage, and any incidents or accidents.
Prepare and submit compliance reports to management and regulatory bodies as required.
Collaborate with other departments (e.g., warehouse, customer service, procurement) to ensure smooth logistical operations.
Respond promptly to transport-related incidents, providing solutions and managing risk.
Ensure the company maintains a strong safety culture and continuously improves transport-related processes.
Key Requirements:
Proven experience in a Transport Management role, ideally within a HGV / logistics environment.
CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
in Road Haulage - Essential.
Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements.
Experience managing a fleet of HGVs and leading a team of professional drivers.
Excellent planning and organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
Ability to work under pressure and solve problems quickly and efficiently.
Desirable:
Knowledge of FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme), DVSA Earned Recognition, or ISO standards.
First Aid or Health & Safety qualifications.
Experience in a similar sector (e.g., logistics, waste management, construction, retail distribution).
Working Conditions:
Office-based with regular visits to depots and vehicle yards.
Occasional out-of-hours work may be required to handle emergencies or oversee operations.
