As the named Transport Manager on our Operator's License, you will be the legal backbone and operational leader of our Watford depot. This is a dual-purpose role: ensuring 100% legislative compliance while managing a high-performing team of drivers and operations staff. You will oversee fleet strategy, financial reporting, and daily service excellence during an exciting period of fleet expansion and PSVAR upgrades.
Maintain the company's "Good Repute" by managing the VOL system, ensuring all vehicle discs are current and reporting notifiable changes within 28 days.
Tachograph & Hours Analysis:
Conduct deep-dive root-cause analysis on infringements. Lead "Corrective Coaching" sessions and manage the disciplinary process for repeat offenders.
Maintenance Auditing:
Oversee the ECM VMS system. Audit PMI records to ensure 100% completion within 6/8 week windows and verify that all Brake Tests meet the 2026 laden standards.
Safety Protocols:
Lead the company's Drug & Alcohol testing program (random and targeted) and oversee all RTA (Road Traffic Accident) reporting to insurers.
2. Operational & Staff Management
Team Leadership:
Manage a team of drivers and depot staff, ensuring they depart in a timely manner with impeccable uniform and professional standards.
The "Run-Out" Audit:
Conduct random gate-checks to verify the quality of First-Use/Walk-around checks. Use "call-card" testing to ensure drivers are not "ghost-checking" vehicles.
Driver Lifecycle:
Lead recruitment, induction, and ongoing assessment. You will act as the internal trainer, providing 6-month legal refreshers and CPC monitoring.
Sickness & Incident Response:
Act as the senior point of contact for driver sickness and major on-the-road incidents, ensuring a prompt and professional resolution.
3. General Management & Commercial Strategy
Financial Oversight:
Update and analyze the weekly "Cost Flash Sheet." Monitor VOR (Vehicle Off Road) costs and fuel efficiency.
Fleet Development:
Lead the project for fleet upgrades and PSVAR compliance. Assist in planning depot expansion as the fleet grows.
Facilities Management:
Liaise with the Yard Foreman to ensure the floodlit workshop and depot environment remain safe, tidy, and compliant with H&S regulations.
Candidate Requirements
Mandatory:
Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Passenger Transport.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years in a Transport Management or General Management role within the Coach/Bus industry.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in digital management systems (ECM VMS or similar) and Tachograph analysis software.
Attributes:
A "firm but fair" leadership style with the ability to manage diverse personalities in a high-pressure, early-morning environment.
Location:
Must be within a commutable distance of Watford to handle emergency call-outs or early run-out inspections.
