Job Purpose
The role will provide crucial support to the General Manager in overseeing and enhancing driver compliance across the fleet, mainly Heavy Goods Vehicles. This role focusses on ensuring adherence to relevant regulations relating to the Company's Operating Licence and codes of industry good practice across all activities undertaken.This role includes overseeing and supporting a small office team and a great group of drivers. This role will also oversee the daily planning and routing of the vehicles in a 24/7 operation.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
To ensure the Transport function operates profitably.
Ensuring our TMS is used to the best of its capability along with our sign on glass system.
Take responsibility for ensuring the company's policies in respect of Health & Safety are maintained and enforced complying to all legislative requirements
Maintain a high level of customer service by ensuring a polite and well-mannered approach is received by the customer.
Ensuring vehicle defect end to end process is always watertight.
Collaborate with the management team to address compliance & H&S issues
To line manage and coach all members of staff within the Transport Operations Team
Carry out effective 1 to 1's
Work closely with HR on leading, mentoring, and developing a team of transportation professionals.
Ensuring through peaks, holidays and other absences that the office has enough cover and operates effectively.
Ensure department checklists are completed and reviewed on a regular basis
Building unbreakable relationships with customers ensuring MTS are at the top of their list to call.
Drive the collaboration and communication between Planning and Compliance teams to ensure this is effective
To hold daily AM & PM meetings with the team to ensure clear direction of the tasks in hand along with any issues that may have arisen.
Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Investigate accidents or incidents to determine causes and prevent reoccurrence
Assess compliance, or operational risks and develop risk management strategies with respective operational leads
Over see documentation of compliance activities such as the company's accreditation to FORS, FIAS and any other customer related compliance requirements
Requirements
Maintain or gain Transport Manager CPC
HGV Licence & driving experience
Experience of working closely / liaising regularly with a workshop
Proven experience in fleet compliance
Excellent knowledge of parts, spend cost, and labour hours
Proven experience in the general haulage industries is essential
Strong understanding of transport and traffic regulatory requirements and reporting
Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience with FIAS and or FORS is an advantage
