The Role

We are looking for an experienced and ambitious

Transport /

Operations Manager

to lead the day-to-day running of our fuel distribution operation. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands transport, safety and compliance in a regulated environment and who enjoys a fast-paced role whilst being visible, approachable and closely involved with drivers and the wider team.

You will be responsible for ensuring our operations run safely, efficiently, and compliantly, while acting as the first point of contact and go-to-person for all drivers, supporting them with day-to-day requirements and operational issues.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily operations to ensure deliveries run efficiently and on schedule. Act as the go-to person for all drivers, supporting them with queries, delays, breakdowns, or operational issues. Monitor fleet performance, maintenance schedules, and driver compliance with working time regulations, drivers' hours, and tachograph rules. Manage depot operations including vehicle availability, loading, storage, and handling of fuel. Lead and support the operational team, including recruitment, inductions, training, and performance management. Maintain compliance with transport and legal requirements (DVSA, ADR, Driver CPC). Work with the Director to manage operational budgets, monitor costs, and improve efficiency. Support continuous improvement of operational processes, driver engagement, and service delivery. Undertake driving duties as required to cover absences or busy periods.

What We're Looking For

Proven experience in operations or transport management, ideally within fuel, logistics, or distribution. Ambitious and energetic in our fast-paced industry. Experience managing or supporting drivers in a hands-on environment. Strong knowledge of transport legislation, drivers' hours, and fleet compliance. Confident communicator with excellent organisational, problem-solving skills and general multi-tasker. Proactive, practical, and driver-focused.

Desirable:

ADR, PDP, IOSH Managing Safely, Driver CPC Trainer, multi-site operations experience

Qualifications

Full UK Driving Licence (HGV Class 2 minimum) Level 3 Certificate of Professional Competence - Transport Manager (or willing to undertake)
