Are you a natural leader with a strong background in transport operations and waste management? We're looking for a proactive and experienced
Transport Supervisor
to oversee the daily operations of our HGV fleet and support teams.
About the Role
As Transport Supervisor, you'll be responsible for the efficient and compliant coordination of our transport activities, including:
Supervision of HGV Drivers, Helpers and Transport Office Staff
Ensuring timely and efficient collections, deliveries, and waste transfers
Monitoring vehicle maintenance, driver performance, and route planning
Upholding health & safety and environmental standards
Liaising with internal departments and external stakeholders
Supporting continuous improvement and operational efficiency and service delivery
Ensure effective communication between operational and office teams and other stakeholders throughout the group
Supporting the wider team to managing customer queries and resolving complaints professionally
Key Responsibilities
Lead, coach and develop your team of HGV Drivers, Helpers and Transport office support staff
Conduct regular team briefings
Assist in recruitment, training, and people management activities (disciplinary's, grievances, absence management, performance reviews)
Foster strong communication between operational staff and office staff
Ensure compliance with transport legislation and company policies & procedures
Maintain accurate records (e.g., tachographs, vehicle checks, route logs)
Respond to operational issues and resolve them swiftly
Handle customer queries and complaints with professionalism and urgency
Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders across the group
Report to management on KPIs and operational updates
Must be flexible in undertaking the duties and responsibilities attached to your role
Essential Criteria
Minimum of 2 years experience in transport or logistics supervision (minimum (preferably in waste management)
CPC Transport Management qualification (or willing to work towards)
Strong knowledge of HGV operations and relevant legislation
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
IT literate (Microsoft Office, transport management systems)
Flexible approach to working hours (must be willing to work on a Saturday if required to support the operational needs of the business)
Must have a valid UK Driving Licence as this role will involve travel around all the depots throughout the RiverRidge Group.
Desirable Criteria
Previous work experience working within the waste industry
Previous experience operating /supervising a weighbridge
Experience working in a unionised environment
Must be able to provide documentation to confirm your eligibility to work in the UK
