We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused Transport Team Leader to join our logistics operation. This role is key in supporting the daily running of transport activities, ensuring legal compliance, maintaining performance standards, and providing frontline leadership to the transport team.
As a Transport Team Leader, you will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day transport operation, including driver compliance, vehicle scheduling, communication with internal departments, and team performance. You will act as the main point of contact during your shift and ensure that all activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in line with transport regulations.
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off day shift (06:00 - 18:00)
Salary: 42,000.00
Site: Wakefield, Newmarket Lane, Stanley.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the shift transport operation, ensuring all planned deliveries and collections are completed on time and to the required standard.
Monitor the TMS departure board, coordinating prompt departures and notifying relevant parties of any issues or delays.
Supervise and support the driving team, ensuring adherence to EU Drivers' Hours and Working Time Directive regulations.
Conduct pre-briefs and debriefs with drivers, providing feedback and escalating any performance or conduct concerns.
Liaise with internal departments including Warehouse, Customer Service, and Fleet Maintenance to support smooth operational flow.
Ensure all vehicle defects are reported and resolved in collaboration with the fleet department.
Produce accurate and informative shift handovers for incoming teams and management.
Escalate significant service, safety or compliance issues to the Transport Manager.
Assist in managing employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary meetings, and performance discussions.
Essential Requirements:
Transport Manager CPC Qualification (Essential).
At least three years' experience in a transport or logistics supervisory role.
Strong understanding of EU Drivers' Hours, Tachograph regulations and the Working Time Directive.
Confident in leading a team, managing workloads, and communicating effectively across departments.
Experience handling basic employee relations issues such as conduct or capability meetings.
Proficient in using Transport Management Systems and Microsoft Office.
